Quarter Acre ‘Doc’s Block’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

19-Apr-2016
The ‘Quarter Acre’ brand of Rod McDonald is the realisation of his dream as a Kiwi to have his own place in the world, this being Hawke’s Bay. The wines under the ‘Quarter Acre’ label are Rod’s expressions of the right varietals in the right place, and he has joy in getting the wines to show their expression of source. The Quarter Acre Chardonnay comes from Mendoza clone fruit from old vines from the famous ‘Doc’s Block’ vineyard in Haumoana. The vineyard has produced outstanding wines for many years, and Rod McDonald continues the tradition of making a Chardonnay that possesses all the quality and character inherent in the fruit and the coastal-influenced site. Here, I review the 2015 release, which Rod notes is the best vintage he’s experienced with fruit from there. www.rmwines.co.nz
