Prophet’s Rock 2010 and 2009 Dry Rieslings

At the end of March, I reviewed a selection of Prophet’s Rock Central Otago wines, which were rated very well, the Pinot Gris 2011 and Pinot Noir 2010 both gaining 5-stars. (Click here to see my reviews.) The 2009 Dry Riesling also performed creditably, did not fare as well as the other times I have seen the wine, which led general manager and winemaker Paul Pujol to suspect I had an out of condition bottle. He has resent the wine, with the about-to-be released 2010 vintage wine to compare. (I saw this at a tasting at the Nelson Aromatics Symposium in February last year. Click here to see my review of the tasting.) Paul informs that these Riesling wines were made from the company’s Pisa vineyard, the vines on alluvial river terrace soils. The Pisa vineyard was sold in 2012 by the former owners, Mike and Angela Mulvey, and as of 2013, Riesling fruit will be sourced from the new owners other Bendigo site, the vines on rocky schist.
