Pisa Range

Jenny and Warwick Hawker established Pisa Range vineyard in 1995 and operated on the original 4-hectare block for about 20 years. The first hectare of Pinot Noir was planted near some old historical Black Poplar trees and thus the grapes from this block exclusively went into producing the 'Black Poplar Block' Pinot Noir.

About 5 years ago Jenny and Warwick decided they wanted to relocate to the terraces of their estate and build a new house, to do this they decided to sell the original plot of Pinot Noir but retain the Pisa Range Estate business. Unfortunately, Jenny suddenly passed away prior to this move being completed. However, Warwick is now living on the new site and we have transplanted all the original Riesling grapes and intend to plant Pinot Noir in the next few years.

Currently, they're buying in selected parcels of wine from the area that mimic as closely as possible the Pisa Range Estate profile hence 'Soli Vero' was born.

Sigrid has now taken over her mother’s role as General Manager since Jenny's passing and runs the business.

  Deep, ruby-red with some transparency, slightly lighter on the rim with a deep purple hue. The bouquet is full and deep with savoury fruit of black cherries, black plums and berries, entwined with thyme herbs, unfolding baking spices and earthy mineral elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate is full with rich flavours of savoury black cherries and plums, enriched by broody dark thyme, earthy minerals and subtle spices. The mouthfeel is opulent, supported by smooth, silky tannin extraction, flow with integrated lacy acidity along an earthy mineral drive. The fruit has richness and concentration, sweet-scented with savoury balance underlying alcohol power lends a long sustained finish. This is an opulent Pinot Noir with flavours of sweet and savoury balanced fruit, along with thyme and spices nuances underlined silky tannin and earthy mineral details. Match with slow-cooked lamb shoulder and tea-smoked duck over the next 8-10 years. 100% Pinot Noir from Bendigo, fermented to 14% alc. Biogro organic certified.   Deep, ruby-red, youthful, lighter pink on edge. The nose is softly-penetrating aromatic black cherries, deep florals, along with herbs and an earthy undertone. Medium-bodied, black cherries and blackberries melded with an amalgam of fragrant herbs, subtle deep florals lingers on the finish. The mouthfeel is soft with powdery tannin, lightly coated on the palate along a mineral textured line. The fruit is with ripe flavour and mid-palate weight, broaden the dimension along with savoury elements and herbal-nuanced finish. This is a refined Pinot Noir with flavours of black fruit, deep florals on a supple powdery tannin palate lead to a savoury herbal-nuanced finish. Match with pork loin and venison carpaccio over the next 3 years. 14% alc, aged in French oak barriques for 9 months. 17.5+/20 pts Sept 2020 RRP $28
