Pisa Range Estate was established by Warwick and Jenny Hawker in 1995, forming some of the earliest grape plantings in the Pisa district. They have 33 ha of land, the hillside terraces with the oldest vines producing the very successful ‘Black Poplar Block’ Pinot Noir. The younger Dijon clone plantings are on the flatter block and produce the ‘Run 245’ Pinot Noir. On the flatter block are 1.5 ha of Riesling vines which yielded their first crop in 2012. The wines are made by Rudi Bauer of Quartz Reef. This is classical, quality Central Otago wine of the first order. Here, I re-review the 2014 Riesling, and review the new 2015 ‘Run 245’ and 2014 ‘Black Poplar Block’ Pinot Noirs. www.pisarangeestate.co.nz
