The grower Champagnes of Pierre Peters have a strong following due to their quality and distinctive style. The Peters family have a history back to 1840, and has been under the direction of Rodolphe Peters since 2008. The estate is based on 18 ha of vines, on average 30 y.o.. in the grand cru villages of Le Mesnil sur Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant, of which around two-thirds is in Le Mesnil. The estate produces a range of wines that respects place and the Chardonnay grape, though high quality Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier is sourced to make rosé. The estate employs a unique solera system for the reserve wines which bestows a degree of house character, but also consistency. The Peters Champagnes have QR codes on the back label which provide detailed information on the wines. The ‘L’Esprit de 2013’ is one of Pierre Peters more accessible wines designed to showcase both the Chardonnay grape and the beauty of the 2013 vintage. I review the wine here.
