Peter Yealands 2014 Pinot Noir and Winemaker’s Reserve Pinot Noir 2013

Although Peter Yealands has had a long involvement in the New Zealand wine industry, it was only in 2008 that he launched his Yealands Estate company, based on significant vineyard plantings and a new winery complex in the Awatere Valley. His impact on the local and global wine scene is already extensive and significant, and the reach and penetration in the various markets can be credited to the strong team of people and highly efficient systems. The outlook of the company is geared for the future with sustainability one of the key features of its operations. It is prudent to realise that the full development of wine styles and quality is on-going, and especially with the more demanding Pinot Noir, and decades of work may be required to achieve a world class standing. I’m sure this is not lost on chief winemaker Tamra Kelly-Washington. But each year, there is noticeable progress. The ‘Peter Yealands’ brand offers more value, and the ‘Winemaker’s Reserve’, from Central Otago fruit, moves towards the higher echelons of interest with each release.
