Petane Station 2014 Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer

04-Nov-2015
Philip and Sarah Barber established Petane Station when they purchased a block of vines then planted more, at Eskdale in the Esk Valley, Hawke’s Bay. They continue to develop their vineyard to date, and have 8 ha of vines in 5 blocks. Pinot Gris is the predominant variety and they have smaller amounts of Gewurztraminer, Viognier and Chardonnay. Dedicated to whites, the Barbers have sourced red wine from outside the area. The Barbers tend the vineyard personally, and Philip makes the wine with the consultancy advice of Ant Mackenzie at the Askerne facility. The wines have received critical acclaim in shows and reviews. Last month, I reviewed the 2014 Viognier and 2013 Syrah (click here to see my reviews), and I was impressed. Here, I review the 2014 Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. www.petanestation.co.nz
