The ‘Pencarrow’ brand is secondary to the top ‘Palliser Estate’ label, but the wines are made with the same care as the premium wines, from the same vineyard sources, but in a more accessible style, to be softer and more fruit-driven. It is these characteristics that endear the wines to most consumers and wine show judges alike, as the wines are very successful in the market, as well as winning as many top awards, if not more than the top tier wines! Of course, we know the Palliser Estate wines live longer and develop greater complexity of character, but for immediate drinkability and satisfaction, the Pencarrow wines are preferable! Here, I review the new release 2016 Pencarrow Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. www.palliser.co.nz
