Pencarrow 2014 Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay

20-Jan-2015
The Pencarrow tier of Palliser Estate has proven to be an excellent second label for this premium Martinborough producer. Secondary tier wines are often more popular than the flagship wines not only because of their lower pricing, but due to their greater accessibility. Invariably they are more fruit-forward and are softer in texture as well as being more harmonious. Their immediate balance endears them to wine judges on the show circuit who mark the wines for how they appear on the day, rather than rewarding their potential. The Pencarrow Pinot Noir has been one of the most well-awarded, but the white stalwarts of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay can be seen as equally good. Here, I review the new 2014 releases of these whites. www.palliser.co.nz
