The Riesling and Pinot Noir expressions of Pegasus Bay, as do all the wines from the Donaldson family, share similar traits from the philosophy behind their production even though they can sit in different tiers. The estate wines and the ‘Reserve’ wines are fulsome, flavoursome and friendly, packed with complexities and funkiness. While the estate wines have a familiarity and are closer to the norms of their categories, the ‘Reserve’ wines can take style definition a further step into the adventurous and unknown for many drinkers. Here I review the new release ‘Reserve’ styled ‘Bel Canto’ Dry Riesling 2011 and the estate Pinot Noir 2010. www.pegasusbay.com
