Without any doubt, Pegasus Bay make some of the Waipara Valley and New Zealand’s most complex Pinot Noirs and decadent sweet wines. The Donaldson family have shared their wine experiences from around the world across two generations to come to an understanding of what pleases the sophisticated wine enthusiast. What is so special about what they do is that they make their wines extremely attractive and delicious to the newcomer too. Few wine producers have that skill. Here, I review three ‘Reserve’ styled wines from Pegasus Bay: a Pinot Noir, a Late Picked Riesling and a Noble Semillon/Sauvignon, the latter wine a second and different bottling which includes Sauvignon Blanc.
