Paxton McLaren Vale 2015 and 2014 Reds

In 1979 David Paxton founded his ‘Paxton’ McLaren Vale wine company and established a reputation for growing excellent fruit. The company now has approx. 80 ha of vineyards, some first planted in the 1890s, but David manages over 200 ha in the region. In 2000, he launched his ‘Paxton’ wine label with a 1998 Shiraz. The range of wines has grown and showcases the suitability of the McLaren Vale not only for Shiraz, but a wide range of other varieties, both white and red. The Paxton vineyards are managed organically and biodynamically and the wines are made by Richard Freebairn. Here, I review four Paxton McLaren Vale reds. They all share an elegance of expression. The wines are distributed in New Zealand by Procure Liquor.
