Paroa Bay 2014 Chardonnay

Paroa Bay is the small winegrowing venture of Richard Magides who is also the co-owner of Yarra Yeing in Australia, and who has an interest in Urlar in the Wairarapa. The Paroa Bay vineyard, near Russell in the Bay of Islands has 4.5 hectares of vines in the 24 ha estate which includes a cellar door and accommodation. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay were first planted in 2007, followed by Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec and Merlot in 2008 and 2009. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay first fruited in 2012, yielding approx. 80 cases of wine in total. The reds came on stream in 2013. The vineyard is tended by husband and wife team Paras Dhuria and Pragati Thorat, who studied oenology and viticulture at Lincoln, and the wines are made by Rod MacIvor at the Marsden Estate facility at Kerikeri.
