Palliser Estate Martinborough Rosé 2016

When Palliser Estate winemaker Allan Johnson introduces a new wine to the range, it is only done after a period of trialling to ensure the fruit sources and vinification techniques are ideal. The rosé market has experienced an exceptional period of growth over the last few years, and Palliser Estate released their first, appropriately named ‘Special Release’ with the 2014 vintage, the wine being made in limited quantities. It proved a great success, especially at the Toast Martinborough festival. With the 2015 vintage, Allan increased the depth of fruit and improved on the textures. I thought it on the verge of 5-star status. With this 2016 release, I believe he has cracked it. It is my highest rated rosé I’ve tasted this year. It also comes in new livery, the Palliser Estate labelling now revitalised.
