Palliser Estate Martinborough Pinot Gris 2014

As with most New Zealand producers, Palliser Estate came to Pinot Gris later as the variety began what can be seen as a period of phenomenal growth. Palliser Estate’s first vintage was in 1999, so it is no stranger to the variety’s performance in the vineyard and the making of the most suitable styles. Winemaker Allan Johnson’s preference is for his Pinot Gris wines to be stainless-steel fermented to preserve as much vibrancy as possible. There are vintages where a very small amount of seasoned oak is used to add the most subtle detail, without taking away any freshness. The 2013 vintage (click here for my review) was one such wine. Here, I review the new 2014 Pinot Gris, totally stainless-steel vinified.
