Paddy Bothwick is a cornerstone of the wine growing community in the Gladstone region of the Wairarapa, and with over 30 vintages under his belt conducted here in New Zealand as well as overseas, he is arguably the most experienced vigneron in the area. The Borthwick family have had long-established links with the land and is well-known in the meat industry as well as owning Te Whanga Angus Stud in the Wairarapa since 1936. Paddy set up the 27 ha Borthwick Estate Vineyard in Dakins Road, planting Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling in 1996, the same year that the Kernohans took over Gladstone Vineyard. Paddy Borthwick, along with Christine Kernohan and Kai Schubert are now the inspiration for the newer arrivals in Gladstone and the greater Wairarapa. www.borthwick.co.nz
