OMEO 2015 Riesling and Late Pick Gewurztraminer, and 2014 Pinot Noir

13-Jul-2016
Bruce Shaw and Robyn Sim keep an immaculate 1 ha vineyard on Hawley Road in the Earnscleugh Valley foothills just outside of Alexandra in Central Otago. Bruce assists Antony Worch at Alexandra Vintners and Robyn is a viticulturist, and they have produced their OMEO label from the 2009 vintage. The vineyard was established in 1998, 90% to Pinot Noir and 10% to Riesling, and the initial vintages sold as contract fruit. Bruce and Robyn have decided to make one Pinot Noir rather than a ‘regular’ and ‘reserve’ style from 2014. In 2015, they obtained a small amount of Gewurztraminer from the ‘Immigrants’ vineyard to make 15 cases of an experimental wine, which will not be commercially available. Here, I review the new wines, a Riesling and the ‘Late Pick’ Gewurztraminer from 2015, and the ‘Hidden Valley’ Pinot Noir 2014. All of the wines how lovely attention to detail and allow the fruit to speak with purity www.omeovineyard.com
