Omaka Springs ‘Falveys’ 2015 Chardonnay and 2012 Pinot Noir, and 2013 ‘Vixen’ Syrah

19-May-2016
Geoff and Robina Jensen established Omaka Springs Estates in the Omaka Valley coming from Nelson in 1992. The home vineyard is the ‘Kennedys Road site with 14 ha and this is supplemented by the near 50 ha ‘Falveys’ Road Block. The Jensens have had Ian Marchant as their winemaker since 1998 and Richard Shepherd as the vineyard manager since 1994. As well a the classical Marlborough varieties, the Jensens have the innovative Gruner Veltliner and Syrah planted. Their estate wines and ‘single vineyard’ bottlings are now being joined by these new varieties. Here, I review the 2015 ‘Falveys Single Vineyard’ Chardonnay, the 2012 ‘Falveys Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2013 OSE ‘Vixen’ Syrah, this named after the ‘Sea Vixen aeroplane flown by Geoff Jensen. www.omaka.co.nz
