Omaka Springs 2014 Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, and 2013 Merlot

Omaka Springs Estate was established in 1992 when Geoff and Robina Jensen up-rooted their olive trees in Nelson and replanted them alongside existing vineyards in the Omaka Valley. The Jensens now have their home ‘Kennedys Road' vineyard with over 14 ha of vines planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot and Pinot Gris. Gruner Veltliner was introduced in 2011. The ‘Falveys Road' block is just under 50 ha and is planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Riesling (now discontinued), Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Merlot and Pinot Noir. This is also the Estates root stocks nursery. Recently Syrah was also planted. The Omaka Springs Estate winery was built in 1994, and Ian Marchant has been winemaker there since 1998. The vineyard manager is Richard Shepherd, with the company since 1994. Here, I review the 2014 Pinot Gris and ‘Falveys Single Vineyard’ Chardonnay, and the 2013 Merlot.
