Ngatarawa ‘Stables’ Lighter Sauvignon Blanc 2015

19-May-2016
As with any commercially successful wine producer, the Corbans of Ngatarawa in Hawke’s Bay are very aware of market requirements and trends. There’s no doubting the incredible and fruitful experience of the ‘Stables’ brand for the company since the start. Alwyn and Brian Corban, and their winemaker Peter Gough have studied the growth of the lower-alcohol Sauvignon Blanc market and have now decided to enter this growth category. Winemaker Peter Gough reports that the key to making a good example is to get the right vineyard site which allows long hang-time for flavour development, but with slower sugar ripening. Following harvest, the wine is given some lees work to enrichen the palate. Here is my review of the 2015 ‘Stables’ ‘Lighter’ Sauvignon Blanc. It is billed as having 25% less alcohol compared to the standard ‘Stables’ Sauvignon Blanc. www.ngatarawa.co.nz
