Nevis Bluff 2013 Pinot Gris and 2011 Pinot Noir

05-Aug-2016
Named after a jagged rocky outcrop at the eastern end of the Gibbston Valley, the Nevis Bluff wine venture was established by a group of shareholders who planted 8 ha of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris there in 1993, producing wine in 1998. Original shareholders Graham Wilkinson, and Merrilll and John Holdsworth purchased the company and now produce their Nevis Bluff wines from the ‘L’Attitude’ vineyard in the Lowburn region, the first vintage from there being 2006. The vineyard is under the care of viticulturist Ian Cunliffe, and the wines are made by Dean Shaw at the Central Otago Wine Co. in Cromwell. Variations of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir make up the portfolio, with rosé and Pinot Blanc and a ‘Vendages Tardive’ providing breadth. Here, I review the about to be released Pinot Gris 2013 and current release Pinot Noir 2011. www.nevisbluff.co.nz
