Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2015

14-Dec-2016
The Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay of Tim and Judy Finn in Nelson is one of this country’s best examples of the classic Burgundian white variety, and indeed one of this country’s great wines. The wine is an expression of the Moutere clay gravel soils, the Upper Moutere site and mature Mendoza clone vines, some over 35 years old, as well as the care and sophisticated vinification by Tim Finn and Todd Stevens in preserving a much of the quality and character as delivered by the vineyard team led by Mike Saunders. Through different vintages, I’ve always rated the wine at 5-star level, and the 2011 I rated at a perfect 20.0/20 (click here to see my review). Here, I review the 2015 wine, from a smaller yielding harvest with a ”classic ripening window” which has endowed the wines wine ripeness as well as purity and vibrancy, according to the Neudorf. www.neudorf.co.nz
