Mystree Estate is the boutique wine venture of Geoff and Carol Reed who retired from work overseas to return to Carol’s home in 2004. In 2009, they planted 2,000 clone 95 and Mendoza Chardonnay vines on just over 0.5 ha of their block on Dry River Road, approx. 3 km further in from Murdoch James and about 14 km from the Martinborough village. As well as the vineyard, the Reeds make olive oil and run luxury accommodation. Geoff and Carol tend the vines and make the wines on-site, with some neighbourly advice of local winemaker Simon Groves. I tasted the 2014 vintage Chardonnays early this year and found merit in them (click here to see my reviews). Here I review the 2015 ‘Reserve’ Chardonnay from a lower yielding vintage. The wine is yet to be released, but is one that can be anticipated. www.mystree.nz
