When the call for premium Pinot Noir grapes was made for the Mud House group, a 5 ha, north-west facing slope overlooking the Delta Dam in the ‘Woolshed’ vineyard in the Southern Valleys was planted to 5 clones of Pinot Noir in October 2009. The site was originally an Airforce base between 1943 and 1944, known as RNZAF Delta Dam, and its damp soils originally thought unsuited to growing vines. Under the supervision of vineyard manager Nev Gane, the vineyard has been brought up to the standard of producing superior fruit, and along with some vine maturity, has led to the making of the first ‘Single Vineyard’ Pinot Noir from the ‘Woolshed’ site. The wine is appropriately named ‘Dambuster’. Here is my review of the wine. www.mudhouse.co.nz
