Mt Beautiful 2015 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

18-Jan-2017
American-based New Zealander David Teece and his wife Leigh, academic and business professionals, established the Mt Beautiful vineyards near Cheviot in North Canterbury in 2004. There are now over 70 ha of vines established, over half of which are to Sauvignon Blanc, 30% to Pinot Noir, and with smaller plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The varietal mix is particularly suited to export to the United States, where much of the production is sold. The wines have a good domestic presence as well. Sam Weaver has been the winemaker from the start of the venture, and Fin Grieve is the vineyard manager. Here, I review the new release 2015 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. www.mtbeautiful.co.nz
