Mount Riley 2013 Pinot Noir and Merlot/Malbec

10-Jun-2014
Established in 1992 by John Buchanan, Mount Riley is one of the understated successes of Marlborough, with a very strong presence in all sectors of the market. The quiet presence belies the size of the company, the quality and the value of the wines. Growing much of the company’s needs in grapes, Mount Riley also sources contract fruit to meet demand. John’s daughter Amy is the general manager, and her husband Matt Murphy is the winemaker. Last year, I reviewed a selection of the top-flight ‘Seventeen Valley’ releases (click here to see) which stand among the best in the region. Here, I review two 2013 red wines from the ‘Estate’ range which shows the company’s prowess in providing value. www.mountriley.co.nz
