The new release 2009 Pinot Noirs from Duncan Forsyth at Mount Edward reflect this benign vintage for him. Although the growing season was marked by cooler than normal summer weather, reduced cropping levels enabled proper ripening of the fruit. Duncan reports a particularly enjoyable harvest, which occurred in fine weather, and very healthy, small berries. Stylistically, the wines already show attractive aromatic character and supple, elegant tannin structure. The vanguard of the 2009 wines are reviewed here, with the ‘Single Vineyard' wines to look forward to. www.mountedward.co.nz
