Mount Edward 2014 Riesling, 2013 Pinot Noir and 2012 SV Pinot Noirs

Mount Edward was borne out of the love of hand-crafted Central Otago Pinot Noir. Established in 1997 by Alan Brady, the modern father of the region’s wine industry, the highly experienced and enthusiastic Duncan Forsyth, along with John Buchanan came on board, and the latter two now run what is seen as one of the seminal winemaking operations in Central Otago. For Duncan, it is personal how he captures the expression and nuances of the land through the Pinot Noir variety. It’s the same philosophy as the Burgundians, and that’s why the Mount Edward wines are highly regarded by the world’s pinot-philes. Duncan is assisted in the everyday winery duties by Anna Riederer, and the vineyards are to the care of Tim Austin Moorhouse. Here, I review the new 2014 Riesling, 2013 Pinot Noir, and 2012 single vineyard ‘Morrison’ and ‘Muirkirk’ Pinot Noirs, along with the second tier 2014 Wanaka Road Pinot Noir.
