Mount Edward 2012 Central Otago Aromatics

13-Dec-2012
The aromatic white wines from Duncan Fosyth at Mount Edward in Central Otago may have taken centre stage over the core of Pinot Noir that his Gibbston Valley winery was created to make as its primary focus! This is not necessarily by Duncan's design, but arguably driven by market forces, as the uptake of premium Pinot Noirs is moderated by its relatively high pricing. The aromatic whites of Pinot Gris and Riesling are enjoying a boom time, as the wines fit in with the modern lifestyle. Duncan is one of the main promoters of ‘Summer of Riesling' in New Zealand, which is a popular groundswell of marketing and consumer enjoyment of wines made from the Riesling variety over the warmer months of the year. (For more information, go to www.summerofriesling.co.nz) It seems he is revelling in making the aromatic white styles, and his latest releases look excellent. Here are my reviews of the new wines from the very small 2012 vintage. www.mountedward.com
