Mount Brown Estates was established by Tony Rutherford and his daughter Catherine Keith in 2002 when they planted their home vineyard to Riesling and Pinot Noir in the Waipara Valley. They extended their holdings by planting their 25 ha ‘Limeloader’ vineyard to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris in 2007, adding Tempranillo in 2010. In 2012, they purchased an established vineyard with old vine Merlot, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. From these three sites, they make their Mount Brown and Wild River wines. Here, I review the 2015 Mount Brown ‘Estate’ and top tier ‘Grand Reserve’ Sauvignon Blancs, and the accessible 2012 Wild River Pinot Noir. www.mountbrown.co.nz
