Mount Brown 2013 and 2014 Grand Reserve Waipara Pinot Noir

The Mount Brown label was established by Tony Rutherford and his daughter Catherine Keith in 2002 when they planted their home vineyard. They expanded their holdings by planting a new vineyard in 2007 followed by the purchase of an existing, established vineyard in 2012. Their vineyards are tended by Andrew Florance and the wines are made by the very experienced Frank Manifold. In the excellent 2013 vintage, Pinot Noir has proven to be very successful for Mount Brown. The ‘Estate’ Pinot Noir won gold (and a 5-star rating by me – click here to see my review). Catherine and Tony introduced their inaugural ‘Grand Reserve’ Pinot Noir with the 2013 vintage, this being their top tier. The wine recently was awarded ‘Top Wine of the Show’ at the Sydney ‘Boutique Wine Awards’. Here, I review the new Lot L1a of this wine which received slightly different oaking, and also the soon to be released 2014 vintage.
