Dom and Ally Mondillo are arguably best-known for their Pinot Noir which comes from their 12 ha vineyard in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. From the inaugural 2004 vintage, the wine has been very successful in shows and ratings with every vintage from then on earning a gold medal or 5-star rating. The vineyard includes 2 ha of Riesling from which a wonderfully exotic dry (and decadent Nina Late Harvest) Riesling has been made. From the 2016 vintage, the Mondillos have added a Pinot Noir Rosé wine to the portfolio, and this too has been a great success. I have awarded both the 2016 and 2017 Rosé wines 5-stars. The Mondillo wine range must figure among the strongest in the region. Here, I review the new 2018 Rosé and Riesling, made by Dom and winemaker friend Matt Connell. www.mondillo.com
