Mondillo 2016 Riesling and ‘Nina’ Late Harvest Riesling

14-Oct-2016
Domenic and Ally Mondillo have created an enviable track record for their wines from the vineyard in Bendigo, Central Otago. While Pinot Noir is the focus, the Mondillos have achieved comparable success with variations of Riesling. Dom and Ally have made their wines with Rudi Bauer at the nearby Quartz Reef facility from the first vintage. But Matt Connell came on board as the Mondillos winemaker for the 2016 vintage. Dom and Matt have a connection going back to days in Oregon, and the reconnection since Matt left Akarua was an inevitable one. Matt uses the Aurum winemaking facilities, and the 2016 vintage wines have been made there. I have already reviewed one of the 2016 Mondillo wines, the inaugural rosé which I rated 5-stars (click here to see my review). With Matt’s very strong experience in Central Otago, and as a multi trophy and gold medal winemaker, he will no doubt continue the winning ways for the Mondillos. Here, I review the new 2016 dry Riesling and ‘Nina’ Late Harvest Riesling. www.mondillo.com
