Mon Cheval 2010 and 2009 Waipara Pinot Noir

22-Jan-2016
Mon Cheval is the brand name for the wines from Pearson Estate, the Waipara Valley wine venture of Graham and Deborah Pearson. The name comes from their champion harness race horse ‘Under Cover Lover’ whose success enable the establishment of the estate with land purchase at the entrance to Weka Pass in 2001. The vineyard is 2.2 ha, with 2 ha planted to Pinot Noir in 2003 and the rest to Riesling, planted in 2007. The first vintage was in 2008, with a Pinot Noir made by C. P. Lin, who continues to make the wine. Here, I review the 2010 and 2009 Pinot Noirs The wines show much in common, reflecting both site and maker, and both are now developing complex secondary characters. www.monchevalwines.co.nz
