Moana Park was established in 2000 with Dan Barker taking on the winemaking role in 2005, then he and his wife Kaylea purchasing the business in 2008. Since then, they’ve put their own stamp on the operation with a philosophy of making the wines as naturally as possible. With a number of estate vineyards around Hawke’s Bay, they have the options of blending for consistency as well as expressing single vineyard characteristics. The ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ wines are the more individual and sophisticated wines from Moana Park, and the Barkers have taken these wines to a greater level recently. Here, I review the new release 2015 ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ Chardonnay. www.moanapark.co.nz
