The aim of Dan and Kaylea Barker of Moana Park in Hawke’s Bay is to make "naturally grown wines free of allergy inducing additives” which are a "pure joy to drink” from "small estate owned vineyard dotted…around Hawke’s Bay”. Much of their philosophy is based on their work in the vineyards. They’ve committed to an environmentally aware policy since 2000, adhering to Sustainable Winegrowing N.Z. since then, and are working towards carbon neutrality and on improving soil health. Winemaking is approached similarly, and Moana Park operates a vacuum press which eliminates oxygen and the need for preservative. Here, I review the new 2015 ‘Estate ‘ Sauvignon Blanc which is a result of the Barkers’ philosophies. www.moanapark.co.nz
