The Moana Park wines are made by Dan and Kaylea Barker to a philosophy of minimal intervention, so the wines are as natural as possible. The majority of their wines come from estate vineyards strategically located around different districts of Hawke’s Bay, which allows the suitable matching of variety to soil and microclimate, as well as offering blending options. The ‘Estate’ tier is the premium range for Moana Park, with ‘Crush Pad’ a more fruit-oriented, accessible collection. The ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ wines are limited production, and more individual wines, and ‘The Vintage Project’ are rare annual release. Here, I review the new 2015 ‘Estate’ Pinot Gris and 2014 ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ Martinborough Pinot Noir. www.moanapark.co.nz
