Mission VS Hawke’s Bay Rosé 2016

28-Jul-2016
The rosé category has undergone immense growth over recent years as consumers come to realise the versatility of the style and how the wines are well-suited to modern living with lighter and healthier cuisine. Winegrowers have had to step up to the demands for quality rosé, and no longer make this style of wine as a by-product of red wine. Vineyard sites, and blocks are chosen for fruit that has flavour whilst retaining acidity, which is essential for the style. And the wines, which can vary in weight and flavour, must be ripe and not green, and most importantly be thirst-quenchingly refreshing. It’s a tall ask to make rosé properly. Here, I review the new Mission ‘Vineyard Selection’ Rosé 2016, the first of its style in this tier for Mission Estate. www.missionestate.co.nz
