Mission 2016 Estate Chardonnay and Syrah, and VS Pinot Gris 2016 and Merlot 2015

01-Feb-2017
The Mission ‘Estate’ wines are the most accessible of their production, created to provide classical varietal and regional character. Recent vintages have seen winemaker Paul Mooney build a degree of contemporary sophistication into them, making them wines to take notice of. The ‘Vineyard Selection’ range is aimed at a greater consistency of style, and this is achieved partly through the blending of parcels of fruit from different vineyards, these not always being the same. Both tiers offer value for money, and are widely seen in all distribution channels. Here, I review the 2016 ‘Estate’ Chardonnay and Syrah, both from Hawke’s Bay fruit, and the 2016 ‘VS’ Pinot Gris from the company’s Marlborough vineyard plus the 2015 Merlot from Hawke’s Bay. www.missionestate.co.nz
