Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ 2016 Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon and 2015 Marlborough Pinot Noir

13-Sep-2016
The ‘Reserve’ range of Mills Reef wines are the accessible quality tier for wine drinkers. Fruit from low yielding vines are employed in their making, and the aim is to have "intense fruit flavours and pure varietal expression”, the wines to show "balance of flavour, structure and texture”. The philosophy has serve Mills Reef well, with many of the ‘Reserve’ wines winning top awards and glowing accolades. I find the best ‘Reserve’ wines, especially those from the estate Gimblett Gravels vineyards are often not far off the standard of the flagship ‘Elspeth’ wines, making the ‘Reserves’ great value, delivering higher than their station. Here I review the new release ‘Reserve’ 2016 Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc and 2015 Marlborough Pinot Noir. www.millsreef.co.nz
