Mills Reef ‘Reserve 2015 Chardonnay and 2014 Merlot

25-Feb-2016
The Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ wines are the tier that steps up from the ‘Estate’ range, made from high quality fruit from low-yielding vines. The wines show fruit intensity and classical varietal expression, and are made to show "balance of flavour, structure and texture” according to Mills Reef. They do that for me, and often I find the wines of a quality that brings them close to the flagship ‘Elspeth’ wines. Here, I review the new release ‘Reserve’ 2015 Chardonnay and 2014 Merlot, classical varietal wines of Hawke’s Bay, and the backbone of what Mills Reef does. www.millsreef.co.nz
