Mills Reef 2016 Reserve Rosé, and Reserve Chardonnay 2015

It could be argued convincingly that Mills Reef is the consummate all-rounder wine producing company. Clearly the focus is on the Gimblett Gravels Bordeaux-varietal and Syrah wines, but Mills Reef has a very broad portfolio including a full range of varieties and styles, in three tiers, the accessible ‘Estate’ wines, the well-concentrated and flavoursome ‘Reserve’ wines, and flagship ‘Elspeth’ range. While the majority of the wines ae sourced from Hawke’s Bay, Mills Reef are not averse to utilising fruit from other regions. It’s this flexibility and ability to encompass variety that shows Mills Reef to be so versatile and successful. Here, I review the 2016 ‘Reserve’ Rosé, and have another look at the 2015 ‘Reserve’ Chardonnay, which I rated at the top end of 4-stars.
