McArthur Ridge was established in Springvale in Alexandra, Central Otago, in 2002 as an ambitious lifestyle Pinot Noir vineyard venture with the large property of over 800 ha divided into many sub-title holdings. Considerable plantings of grapes were made, nearing 180 ha, and a contacted system of viticulture and winemaking was to operate for the shareholders. Unfortunately, administration and financial issues beset the venture and it ceased. The estate now comes under the ownership of several owners, a number of whom have created their own labels. I’ve tasted several of these and can report that the fruit quality and resultant wines are sound. The Brandhouse distribution business which specialises in spirits and Champagne has Pinot Noirs from McArthur Ridge fruit. Here, I review the 2015 McArthur Ridge Pinot Noir. www.brandhouse.co.nz
