Maude Wines – Made in Wanaka

Maude wines is the product of Sarah-Kate and Dan Dineen's desire to make great wine, especially Pinot Noir, by working with the fruit from Sarah-Kate's family vineyard ‘Mount Maude' near Wanaka in Central Otago. Both Sarah-Kate and Dan left their high-flying and high-profile jobs as winemakers of Tempus Two and Tower Estate respectively in the Hunter Valley to set up Maude Wines, a winery based in Wanaka. Sourcing fruit from vineyards in Queensbury, Bannockburn and Gibbston as well as Wanaka, the Maude wines are designed to represent the best of Central Otago. (Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is also made to complement the range.) However, the wines made from the 4 ha, northerly-aspect ‘Mount Maude' vineyard in the Maungawera Valley, planted in 1994, are the jewels in the crown. Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris are the varieties. The ‘Reserve' wines are single-vineyard expressions. www.maudewines.com
