Maude 2013 Whites and 2012 Pinot Noirs

Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen have brought a significant degree of experience and professionalism to the Central Otago wine scene since they came, back home in Sarah-Kate’s case, from the Hunter Valley in Australia less than a decade ago. Establishing the Maude winery in 2006 and putting the family’s ‘Mt Maude’ vineyard back into the highlight, the Dineens have supported the Mills family of Rippon is cementing the Wanaka district as a keystone of the Central Otago wine region. The winery is where wines from a number of high profile labels with fruit from different sub-regions are made, and it is the base for the Maude range of wines and the ‘Mt Maude’ single vineyard bottlings. The Dineens have steadily brought their Maude label to the forefront of Central Otago quality with their sensitive and sometimes bold winemaking approach, and their new releases are now becoming highly anticipated. I visited Maude in July and tasted a number of pre-release samples, and was very impressed (click here to read my report). Here, I review a selection of 2013 whites and 2012 Pinot Noirs which figured in the samples.
