Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

25-Jun-2015
Coinciding with a recent revitalisation of the labelling, Matahiwi Estate appears to have moved up a step in the sophistication of their flagship ‘Holly’ wines. With Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir as the prime varieties for this Masterton-based Wairarapa producer, the latest bottlings have been high in quality and have the trait of ageworthiness. (Click here to see my review of the ‘Holly’ Sauvignon Blanc and here for the review of the ‘Holly’ Pinot Noir, both from the 2013 vintage.) Winemaker Jane Cooper seems to be revelling in her craft! Here, I review the new release ‘Holly’ Chardonnay made from Hawke’s Bay fruit. It is elegant and contemporary in style. www.matahiwi.co.nz
