Margrain was one of the first New Zealand producers to take Pinot Gris seriously, made in the classical Alsace style of being dry, with great body and fruit extract. The style sits at the traditional end of the spectrum which is particularly suited to richer foods, pate and terrines a proven match. In a world enamoured with the crisp, leaner Pinot Grigios of the world, or the softly sweet, aromatic and pretty expressions, or the heavily worked Chardonnay-esq versions, the style emulated by Strat Canning at Margrain remains a timeless one. The active Advintage wine retailer based on Hawke's Bay will be offering this wine at a particularly good price. www.margrainvineyard.co.nz www.advintage.co.nz
