David and Coleen Boyd are keen to take the wines from their 11 ha vineyard on Dakins Road in Gladstone up another level. The Lynfer Estate wines have made a positive impression for their delicacy, purity and clarity, and I’ve seen them more forward over the last two vintages. The Boyds receive good viticultural advice from the team at Gladstone Vineyard, who are also contracted to make their wines. Their clone 5 and 115 Pinot Noir were planted in 2000, and clone 777 in 2003, and as the vines begin their path to maturity, subtle changes in consistency and the depth of the wines will no doubt be seen. Maybe this is what I’m detecting with each new release of the Boyd’s wines? www.lynferestate.co.nz
