Lowburn Ferry ‘Home Block’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

Roger and Jean Gibson established 3.5 ha of Pinot Noir on their 35 ha property, originally part of the Partridge Farm, on a north-facing terrace overlooking the site of the Lowburn Ferry crossing. With horticultural backgrounds, both Roger and Jean tend the vineyard. The wines are made at VinPro by the highly experienced Peter Bartle. The Gibsons released the first Lowburn Ferry wine with the 2003 vintage, which won the Champion trophy at the 2005 Bragato Wine Awards. Gold medals and 5-star ratings have regularly come their way, the 2009 and 2010 ‘Home Block' Pinot Noir wines being particularly successful. Besides the ‘Home Block' wine, there is a ‘Skeleton Creek' label which incorporates fruit from sites in the wider Cromwell Basin area, and ‘The Ferryman' ‘Reserve' wine made only in exceptional years. Here is my review of the new ‘Home Block' Pinot Noir 2011. www.lowburnferry.co.nz
