Lone Hill Vineyard – Rising Above Adversity

24-May-2012

The Waitaki Valley in North Otago is proving to be an exciting new vignoble. The limestone-influenced soils appears to be providing the wines with a real sense of minerality. It is very pleasing and exciting to see new names appearing. Lone Hill is the winegrowing venture of Peter and Teresa Wutz who planted their 4 ha site on Grants Road.Otiake, near Kurow, with 2.1 ha of Pinot Gris in 2006 and 1.1 ha of Riesling in 2007. Peter and Teresa have endured some setbacks with frost and gale-force winds, but have persevered to release their wines. The 2011 wines are the first vintage from their vines, cropped low at 4.5 tonnes per hectare, and were made by Cleighton Cornelius at Antonio Pasquale's Kurow Winery. Teresa's son Tim tends the vineyard and lives on site. For commercial enquiries, contact Peter on Tel: 03 476-1995, or email: [email protected]
